ABSTRACT

When molecules in motion collide, for example with the inner wall of a tank, this will cause an impact on the wall. The pressure in this tank is dependent on the strength of these collisions. The ambient pressure surrounding us all (atmospheric air pressure) is dependent on the height above the sea and the weather conditions. When stating a pressure measurement, there are three things to write down; the measured value, the unit and the base reference. A pressure gauge is often based on a Bourdon tube. A pressure transmitter is a pressure meter consisting of a pressure sensor and an electronic device for amplification and conversion to a standardised signal. There are four common sensor principles available, each one preferred by different manufacturers. A capacitive sensor is based on variation in capacitance when two plates are pushed closer together. Probably the most basic calibration method for a pressure meter is a dead weight tester.
