ABSTRACT

Benefits management is an operation that spans the entire lifespan of a programme, and is crucial to the attainment of programme success. In terms of method, benefits management usually comprises: the identification of benefits, the establishment of measurable success criteria, comprehension of the key contributors to benefits achievement, the monitoring of expectations, requirements, deliverables and quality and the measurement of the achievement of benefits against established success criteria. The culture of a company and its existing business base are powerful influences for or against the successful achievement of benefits. The benefits of a programme usually emerge from the Business Strategy, and should be summarised in the Blueprint for Change. The measure of success for benefits is their acceptance by the business against expectations articulated in the Business Strategy. The Design Manager has a responsibility to ensure that change requests are examined for all possible effects, including benefits.
