ABSTRACT

This chapter explains about the latter type of change management – “product adoption” for want of a better name. Project managers and change management both aim to increase the likelihood that projects deliver their intended results. Change management provides a structured approach for supporting the individuals in project managers organisations to move from their own current states to their own future states, although the behavioural effects of change are not always predictable and are sometimes impulsive. State is the collection of behaviours, processes, tools, techniques, organisational structures and job roles that constitute how work is done at present. Transition State is sometimes disorganised and unpredictable, and may create emotions such as despair, anxiety, anger, fear or relief. Change management principles are: people issues, start at the top, make the case, create ownership, communicate the message, provide end-user training, risk management, recognise success, and speak to individuals.
