ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how coaching can help project managers make the most of the team’s valuable resources by building a fire within. Coaching has tremendous potential to increase the performance of the managers who lead projects, the people who help execute them and ultimately, on the project itself. By making use of coaching it’s possible to empower a person to overcome an issue that’s been holding them back for months. Coaching as a leadership style has a direct effect on Project Team Success, as it’s a way to optimise human potential. Therefore, coaching also has an effect on Project Management Success and to some extent on Business Case Success. In high-performing environments, the project manager is comfortable taking the role of a facilitator and coach. He moderates the team’s discussions in such a way that there is space for everyone to come forward and give input into discussions and decisions.
