ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews in more detail how sleep is measured and the basic methods of sleep recording. Sleep is generally regarded as a valuable resource for psychological and physiological well-being. A lucid dream is a dream in which the dreamer is aware of the dream state, and lucid dreamers are able to execute complex actions within the dream. In contrast to normal dreaming, lucid dreaming is characterised by the reappearance of many wake-like cognitive capabilities within the dream. Lucid dream practise is a form of mental practise, which is defined as the cognitive rehearsal of motor activity in the absence of overt physical movement. In every athletic career competition are special highlights and therefore sleep might be of special interest in conjunction with a competition. A variety of different techniques have been suggested for lucid dream induction, which can be loosely classified into three broad categories: cognitive techniques, external stimulation, and miscellaneous.
