ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests more sharing of insights on relational working between supervision in coaching and in other fields, such as counselling and therapy. There are a few signposts that can be seen clearly towards the increasing acceptance of supervision as important, indeed essential, in confirming the professionalisation of coaching. How one can encourage coaches and coaching associations to make it part of everyone's continuing development? But coaching occupies a unique place in the landscape of supervision: many clients, many coaches also, would not see themselves as primarily concerned in their own personal development, but in becoming more effective in their professional context. This makes for a different slant in coach supervision. An important change of direction was in how one can think about readership: surely the ideas about supervision would apply in any kind of human relations work, counselling, therapy, social work or consultancy.
