ABSTRACT

DCD is commonly described as a motor learning disorder. However, surprisingly few studies have specifically examined motor skill learning in individuals with DCD. This chapter will begin by describing studies which have considered skill acquisition in a DCD population. The findings of these studies will then be discussed in light of the theoretical framework put forward in the previous chapter by Newell and Pacheco. Furthermore, we will address issues surrounding motor control in this population including the lack of research focusing on coordination in Developmental Coordination Disorder and we will discuss the issue of variability of movement within a DCD context.
