ABSTRACT

DCD is generally understood to be a heterogenous disorder involving complex interplay between environmental and genetic factors. This chapter will review the available evidence for many of these factors, along with the evidence from neuroimaging studies supporting the notion that DCD is linked to atypical brain development. High rates of co-occurrence between DCD and other neurodevelopmental disorders complicates the investigation of DCD, but also provides clues regarding its aetiology. Therefore, this chapter will also draw on the available evidence from related disorders.
