ABSTRACT

In practice, the specification of the series of behaviours at work is implied by generalizing from strictly historical series over short periods to series of recurrent behaviour. The first of this series is the person's situation as it is seen by a detached observer. The second part of the series of behaviours at work is the person's covert behaviour, or what goes on inside him between his being stimulated by the work situation (or other situations, or a combination of situations) and his acting. The person's situation, as seen by an observer and as seen by himself, have been considered in turn. The way is therefore clear for the definition of the third main part of the series of behaviours at work, which is what the person actually does. The main value of the investigation is in showing how the reconstruction of covert evaluative behaviour can be undertaken.
