ABSTRACT

The explicit purpose of the new law was to provide educational equity for women in the United States. To achieve this goal, Women's Educational Equity Act (WEEA) authorized the Office of Education to create a program to award grants and contracts for the development of new curriculum and training models that would attack sex bias in education at every level, from preschool through adult education. WEEA grants supported staff development projects at all levels, career development programs for rural high school students, academic and social skills programs for women in the penal system, and projects that gave students active roles in implementing Title IX. WEEA established a priority that would support projects that influence educational leaders and policymakers for equity. Curriculum materials include new approaches to training disabled teenage girls and young women with disabilities in their civil rights and educational and career opportunities.
