ABSTRACT

The themes can be pictured as connected in multiple ways that influence each other. Some themes are central to all that happens in language revitalisation, while others are relevant to more specific language practices. Relationships between key people within the language group itself and with important collaborators such as linguists and teachers can have significant ramifications for both the shape of the language itself and where, when, how, and by whom it is used and taught. Language revitalisation is heavily contextual and highly reflective of the particular time, situation, motivation, and group of people involved. Starting point is one of the critical elements in the formation of a language program and its outcomes. The theme of technology arises mostly in terms of resource development, though it is also immediately relevant to documentation by supporting central data collection and collation, and to Teaching and Learning, and new genres of language use.
