ABSTRACT

In January, 2003, the Committee on the Undergraduate Program in Mathematics (CUPM) of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) outlined its forthcoming recommendations The speed at which technology advances may seem to work against an interest in constant improvement. As part of the CUPM presentation, a panelist reported conclusions from a previous CUPM report that had examined various successful mathematics programs. The CUPM 2015 recommendations are particularly interesting, because many of the statements for mathematics seem appropriate for computing. Since CUPM 2015 does a particularly nice job in presenting themes, and since the identified themes often translate nicely to computing , computing faculty are encouraged to read CUPM 2015 frequently when developing and refining computing curricula and courses. The CUPM recommendations cover the entire undergraduate program in mathematics including remedial mathematics, service courses, courses to support partner disciplines, and advanced courses for mathematics majors.
