ABSTRACT

MANY FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO STUDENT ACADEMIC PROGRESS. As the organizer and leader of a course, an instructor can structure content, select appropriate pedagogy, help students with time management, provide encouragement, identify and suggest outside resources, and make mid-course adjustments. However, an instructor’s influence largely falls within reasonable bounds of the course itself. The instructor may have only modest impact on student preparation and motivation. Further, an instructor likely has very little influence on broad social, financial, cultural, and personal matters.
