ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to revisit the contracts and operations of cooperatives from the viewpoint of Islamic Fiqh and compliance with the concept of maqasid syariah. It discusses several separate but interrelated concepts relating to cooperatives and Islamic Fiqh. The chapter analyzes the results based upon discussions on the cooperatives contracts. It identifies research on the issue of maqasid syariah in relations to the membership and operations of cooperatives. Consequently, many cooperatives have been at a clearer explanation of the concept of syariah established regardless they are syariah compli-compliance and maqasid syariah concerning the ant or otherwise. In essence, guidelines set for the cooperatives towards enhancing the life of its members, society as well as the nation pose similarity with those ordained in the maqasid syariah. The operations of a cooperative involve the contract of tabbarru'.
