ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the influence of demographic factors on the re-entry shock of 139 Indonesian returnees. A post-arrival program could be used as an alternative way to help re-entry adjustment of Indonesian returnees. An interesting finding in the Indonesian returnees' context is that there is no correlation between the duration of the stay abroad and reentry shock. If pre-departure programs have been conducted for adjustment in the host country, then a post-arrival program could be used as an alternative means of success for re-entry adjustment in Indonesian returnees. Studying abroad has become a magnet for educated circles in Indonesia. There are many reasons for this; among others, the good reputation of foreign universities, tuition fees being relatively similar to those in Indonesia, and the ease with which foreign graduates find work after returning to their homeland.
