ABSTRACT

This introduction provides an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides an unprecedented observation of contemporary urban processes in Milan using English text for worldwide accessibility, and through its multidisciplinary approach, in relation to its different authors; its trans-scalar approach, in relation to specific contents of different chapters. Indeed, this analysis articulates within several spatial focuses, defined according to specific issues, by ignoring administrative borders, which are no more adequate to current urban phenomena, differently extended from the dense urban core to the wider urban region. The book assigns to the urban change a critical meaning in relation to new productions, their related workplaces and social practices, with reference to the broad theoretical framework on knowledge, creative and sharing economy, urban technologies, smart urbanism, and post-networked city.
