ABSTRACT
M. L. Sigmon and her colleagues present a helpful resource of 35 exemplary picture books about autism and tips for educators in using these books and working with students who have been diagnosed on the autism spectrum. As K. J. Moller points out, the books themselves are important and can serve as springboards for digging deeper into issues, feelings, and perspectives. Short created a useful curriculum framework that stresses the importance of studying global issues through cross-cultural studies which "provide an opportunity for children to examine the complexity and diversity within a particular cultural group". As the teachers use social issues, multicultural, and international books, they create curriculum that honours diversity, invites silenced voices to be heard, allows multiple perspectives to be explored, and helps students connect the local and the global. Book brochures are a wonderful way for an entire class to learn about many different social issues, multicultural, or international books in a short amount of time.
