ABSTRACT

Social and multi-media are now a part of the news effort at both radio and television stations. We have audiences both on the air and online and both need to be satisfied with timely and credible news efforts. We also use social media as a source at times. While we deal with serious time constraints on the air for our stories, we have more latitude with what we put up on our station websites. For radio writers and reporters, we also have the opportunity to add video or photo stills to our efforts. The Internet is a wealth of information. Unfortunately quite a bit of what is put online is not true. Sometimes it is difficult to spot. The people who propagate 'Fake News' are pretty good at making their sites and posts look legitimate. Sites that trade in false or inaccurate news have gotten pretty good at making themselves look legitimate.
