ABSTRACT

As a reporter, understanding the story is easy because we originated the story. As an anchor, we need to learn to be a quick read. Sometimes we don't even see the copy before we are about to read it on the air. There are several tricks we can use to help develop this ability. Once we have selected our person, we have to learn to convince ourself that they are the only person out there listening or watching. If we are on the radio or a reporter, we may want to put a picture of that person where we can see it when we are on the air. Any newscast is made up of a variety of stories. That means we may need to adjust our approach to each story as we make our way through the cast. We have a lot to think about and be aware of when we are on the air.
