ABSTRACT

In radio, we are likely to start on the overnight shift. That will be something like midnight to five or six in the morning. And perhaps some shifts on the weekend. In television, it's also probably going to be a weekend shift. It's a foot in the door and that's what counts, but sometimes it can be a bit difficult to deal with. Even once we are full-time, we are always on-call when we work in news. If something big happens, we will probably be called in, even if it means that we work more than 40 hours in that week. Dealing with the news is stressful all by itself. Dealing with a schedule with odd hours or being on-call can be stressful as well. When we report or anchor the news, we are dealing with a lot of negativity. And we often know more details about the stories than what we put on the air.
