ABSTRACT

This chapter is on the communication of health in sport. It describes emerging health issues in sport, including issues such as increasing incidences of concussion, drug abuse, and the impact of health epidemics. It also delves into how sporting organizations and athletes communicate about health and the public’s interest in knowing about health issues involving athletes. Special sections of the chapter address concussions, drug abuse in sport, and then health epidemics such as Ebola and the Zika virus.
