ABSTRACT

This chapter defines legal and ethical issues in sport communication, differentiating one from the other. A significant part of the chapter addresses legal issues in sport, including media rights and their limits, rights of sport organizers, athletes’ rights, and copyright and trademark issues. Special examples of legal issues are also provided in cases of international trademark violation, defamation in Hong Kong, and the super trademark status granted to the Olympic Games. The chapter also describes types of ethics and their relationships to sport issues.
