Similarly to the need for cognitive certainty, people prefer to face clear and simple moral judgments. Those who approach moral questions in a simple manner, reducing moral decision making to a strict binary between two opposing options, are often perceived as displaying strength, whereas approaches to moral questions that consider multiple views are perceived as a sign of weakness, and a compromise is viewed as a mark of capitulation. Trump provides his supporters with a clear and distinct moral system, free of moral dilemmas and “political correctness.” Trump achieves this by drawing upon dualistic morality, specific collective axiology, and the imperial stage of ethics.
