ABSTRACT

The spatial structure of port systems mainly refers to the combination of spatial or functional relations between ports. In the port system, there are many ports, and the ports' spatial distribution is adjacent. Since the1990s, many Chinese scholars, utilizing the relevant research experience of the international container port system, have carried out substantial research into the formation and evolution mechanism, as well as the spatial structure and competition pattern of the Chinese container port system. The "cross-strait maritime agreement" was signed in 2008. Trade volume between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland has steadily increased. The geographical location of ports on either side of the strait between China and Taiwan is similar: with the situation constantly changing, cross-strait relationships are both competitive and collaborative. The situation of cross-strait relations has been changing since 1949, from tension and isolation to relaxation and intercommunication.
