When encountering a new subject in their education, students often get the impression that everything about the subject is already known, and in fact has always been known. Such is far from the truth. This section is designed to help you better understand how knowledge in a subject is built up over a period of time by many people in many places, and how the treatment of a subject such as fluid mechanics grows and changes with time.
