ABSTRACT

Very Brief Cognitive Behavioural Coaching (VBCBC) concurs with the idea that it can be just as productive for people to seek coaching for short periods of time across the life cycle as it is for them to have one extended period of coaching. However, coaches who practise VBCBC recognize that coachees may well have sought informal coaching help before coming for formal coaching and may well continue to seek such informal help during the coaching process and after coaching has formally ended. VBCBC seeks to make use of what your coachee is already doing that could aid the coaching process and/or make use of what they have done in the past. Effective VBCBC coaches are task-focused but create an unhurried atmosphere while doing so. While VBCBC is largely based on the cognitive behavioural approach to coaching, it also takes seriously the pluralistic point that, at times, it is important to privilege coachees' viewpoints during the process.
