ABSTRACT

The continuing semantic confusion in the telemedicine community about the terms 'telemedicine' and 'telehealth' causes further problems for a search on Google. A search on 'telemedicine' on Google brings up interesting results, but also provides a cautionary tale about searching for information on the Internet. The Telemedicine Information Exchange (TIE) Website may be used as an example of at least two interesting caveats. Most users are aware of the transitory nature of Websites, some of which have either disappeared completely or remain untouched since posted several years ago. A check of the posting date of any information presented is essential. Other search engines are mentioned below but it may be worthwhile to begin a discussion on searching for telemedicine information with Google, since it is the most widely used search engine in the world. Telemedicine enjoyed a resurgence in parallel with the rise of electronic information, making much of the information about it available free or downloadable from the Web.
