ABSTRACT

The principles of air pollution control legislation have evolved over many years. As nations have developed, so has their legislation and through it the setting of their own AQS and guidelines. Legislation may be either national or international. The former is variable due to the requirements and development of the specific country; this is shown by examples (Section 7.10). Protocols and conventions generally govern international air quality control. The first part of this chapter details the legislative criteria to determine impact significance. The second part details international and national air pollution control legislation.
