ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the most important ingredients in statistical analysis. This is done in two ways. We first present two examples of a statistical analysis without assuming any knowledge of statistics. Next we present basic concepts and ideas as clearly as possible. These concepts are discussed in great detail in connection with concrete examples in later chapters and, furthermore, in the course of the exposition they will be applied and illustrated over and over again.
