ABSTRACT

Sampled values of a continuous function appear frequently in wavelet theory, even when the series is not of the form of (9.6). In fact, i t is common to express the coefficients in the scaling function series at the finest scale m to be the sampled values, i.e.,

an,m « f{n2m)2~m'2

This is plausible (and proper) if the scaling function is strongly localized. In fact, i t is just a one term Riemann sum of the coefficient integral.
