ABSTRACT
The collision sets the Earth off at a new speed determined by conservation of linear momentum. With this new speed a previously circular orbit becomes an ellipse. The properties of the ellipse are determined by conservation of energy and conservation of angular momentum. Since the collision slows the Earth down, the point of collision becomes aphelion.
