ABSTRACT
The design of the gating and risering is important for the overall structural integrity of the casting. The gating controls the velocity of the metal and affects turbulence, gas absorption, and oxide formation. The riser is used to prevent solidification shrinkage defects by moving the thermal center from the casting to the riser.
