ABSTRACT
The bracket methods in the previous chapter are guaranteed to converge; that is, for
well behaved functions, if the iterations are repeated often enough, a solution will
always be found. There are, however, a number of issues with the methods: they
require two starting values and this is not always convenient; they also do not take
account of key properties of the function itself as a way to optimise the generation
of new estimates.
