ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the applications of ratios and percentage, and explores the relationships between angles and sides in a right triangle. It details trigonometric functions in finding angles and lengths in a geometric shape and explains the importance of measurement systems. The chapter presents the principal units of measure in U. S. customary and metric systems and examines the units of measure for most common entities in terms of the principal units of measure. It provides formulas for calculating any variable from a relationship between several variables. Conversion from one measuring system to the other is very important and often necessary. Metric system of units has become the industry standard in the field of wind turbines in the United States and elsewhere. An equation is a mathematical relationship between a few variables. A variable is a measureable item that can assume values.
