ABSTRACT

Everyone should have a good working relationship with his or her doctor. With an illness such as chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), this relationship is critical. Some families are fortunate enough to have developed a trusting rapport with a doctor who knows them and their child. The parent mentions two or three symptoms, and doctor has a plan formulated and tests ordered before the parent has even begun to scratch the surface of the problem at hand. CFIDS is an illness that does not go away overnight. Good medical care is essential. Trusting and having faith in physician is critical. Some children may need to use a tape recorder to assist in note taking or a calculator for math computation. Sharing some of the brochures and literature related to children with CFIDS has also been useful for some. A positive, cooperative attitude goes a long way toward getting child the services he or she needs and deserves.
