ABSTRACT

Parents may have a variety of reasons for choosing not to have their child evaluated for special education services. Some parents are very reluctant to request special education services for their children. Parents sometimes worry that it will stigmatize their children in the eyes of friends and teachers. The new principal may question the Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (CFIDS) diagnosis and not be as willing to supply the child with the services that had been provided in the past. Most children with CFIDS are at least restricted in their ability to move around, as compared to healthy children, and may be unable to walk for more than a few minutes without a break because their stamina is affected. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act-Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, formerly known as the Education of the Handicapped Act-guarantees a free appropriate public education for eligible children and youth with disabilities and outlines these children's rights.
