ABSTRACT
As with all design activities, these four stages do not always occur in a neat orderly fashion. FMEA may be a useful tool to help with the selection of potential embodiment designs. Some degree of prototyping may be needed during the generation of ideas. And there will often be a need for iteration through several stages until the design becomes satisfactory.
