ABSTRACT
As a science, the ion exchange phenomenon has been known since about 1850. As a water treatment technology, ion exchange started in water treatment practice about 1924 in softening. Synthetic ion exchangers were developed about 1935 by Adams and Holmes (Dow Chemical, 1964).
