ABSTRACT
In water treatment, disinfection has been practiced since about 1900. In the U.S., the practice began in 1909 with “chloride-of-lime”, i.e., Ca(OCl)2, with the transition to liquid chlorine beginning about 1913 and with practice for liquid chlorine established, with appropriate manufacturing and distribution infrastructure and institutions, by about 1928.
