ABSTRACT

Cultural influences are inextricably linked to people’s career development. In contemporary practice, career counsellors consider how people’s worldviews and cultural norms are relevant for understanding their career-related concerns and for planning meaningful interventions. The guiding theoretical principles of the culture-infused career counselling model are outlined to inform career counselling with all clients. Social processes position people with privilege and disadvantage, which lead to inequitable access to education and employment. Career practitioners are encouraged to frame their roles with a social justice lens and move beyond cultural sensitivity to actively address social injustices.
