ABSTRACT

Drawing from my experience in the fields of psychotherapy and vocational psychology, I propose a model for psychotherapy that incorporates a vocational perspective, referred to as counselling/psychotherapy. Responsive to a widening split between psychotherapy and career counselling, counselling/psychotherapy aims to include vocational issues within the purview of psychotherapy practice, rather than attempt to integrate these two disparate practices. The model of counselling/psychotherapy is illustrated with a case study. The chapter concludes with some reflections on the implications of the discourse used in counselling/psychotherapy.
