ABSTRACT

This work provides a general introduction to nonverbal communication and research in the field in order to draw attention to the importance of nonverbal communication in human communication and, therefore, in the teaching of foreign languages. To do this, the chapter will present, in summary form, what nonverbal communication is and what the signs and systems are that integrate it, and will explain a basic methodology for the systematic study of nonverbal communication and applied linguistics to the acquisition and teaching of foreign languages in order to encourage and promote the integration of nonverbal communication in FL programs.
