ABSTRACT

By the late seventies, research and action had come some distance from the struggle for women's equality in AT&T or food production, and now approached the source of that inequality itself. We explored systems of exploitation that made sexism and racism profitable. We looked more closely at the world of the technologist, particularly at the field of engineering and ideologies of control and dominance-over each other, over workers, minorities, women, the body, the natural world~ These ideologies made inequality comfortable (Weber 1968). But what made the organization of technology as it is today appealing? Why are there so many men in engineering?
