ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a description of the rationale and components of teaching resources known as 'Plurilingual and intercultural learning through mobility — Practical resources for teachers and teacher trainers', or 'PluriMobil'. It presents critical reflections on the approach to interculturality adopted in this instrument, with reference to recent debates and publications of the Council of Europe. The chapter illustrates examples of diverging perceptions of interculturality of teachers implementing PluriMobil materials. When referring back to the common-sense definitions of the teachers whose views were presented and analysed in the chapter, it can be hypothesised that how materials such as the Autobiography of Intercultural Encounters are used depends on the level of understanding of individual teachers. Analysis of the teacher statements in the present study reminds the readers that there is a need for all facilitators who intervene in study abroad to develop an awareness of their perceptions of intercultural competence and become familiar with contemporary critical perspectives.
