ABSTRACT

This chapter describes some strategies children might use to decide on an appropriate topic for children to study as part of children's research project. It explores how any small-scale research project needs to be very focused and children need to be very strict with themselves so that children do not get side-tracked. The chapter considers how important it is to get headteacher or the leadership team on board with children's project and how children might achieve this. Towards the end of their Foundation Degree students are often required to undertake a research project. One of the most common approaches taken to undertaking a small-scale research project is to carry out a case study. Action research has similar elements to a case study in that it allows the researcher to consider a problem or issue in depth. Again there may be more than one method of data collection. Most universities/colleges require students to complete a research proposal.
