ABSTRACT
Healthcare ranks second among industry sectors in energy consumption. Hospitals examining ways to manage costs will find that energy projects provide meaningful opportunities to champion sustainability. Chapter 7 highlights why and how hospitals seek to reduce operating costs through energy efficiency and energy reduction while maintaining a high quality of care in existing clinical programs.
Healthcare leaders can learn from sustainable energy management practices in other industries that have made significant progress, such as the hospitality sector. Energy management in healthcare has not always been on the leadership’s radar – if it gets picked up at all.
