It discusses Value-based medicine and illustrates successful examples of clinical practices developed by local teams that aim to improve outcomes and care within the context of value-based medicine. The chapter presents the hospital's approach to physician and employee engagement and the role that patients and their families play in efficient clinical practice. In healthcare, patients define value, and improvements for patients ultimately benefit other stakeholders and the health system as a whole. In order to truly measure quality of care or patient outcomes, healthcare institutions must track their performance using standardized outcome metrics. Whether low or high resource, highly reliable healthcare institutions rely on high value, which is driven by quality of care per unit cost.
