ABSTRACT
My name is Gene and I’m a long-term cybersecurity guy. In fact, I’m sneaking up on retirement in a few years. I’m not sure if I should be relieved that I’ve survived or sad that I will miss the daily challenge. As I reflect on my career as a CISO (Chief Information Security Officer), it dawned on me that those of us around my age are really the first generation of those to hold the CISO role. We have seen this career path morph over the last 20 or so years from a sideline buried in information technology, to a strategic and visible role. I am excited about what the future holds for those who succeed me.
