ABSTRACT

This chapter presents and discusses two supporting elements for practice research, namely organizational ideology and context. It focuses on how advanced welfare states may be able to support practice research approaches. The chapter discusses the possibilities and the challenges in using more empowerment and narrative-based approaches in the collaboration with citizens. It also focuses on possibilities and barriers when involving citizens and how it is possible to develop and qualify both social work and social work research by involving citizens. There are many ways to support and develop practice research. Passionate, creative and hard-working researchers, practitioners and citizens are naturally a basis for developing practice research approaches and practices. The contribution and cooperation of citizens as developing actors in social work is required in the development of social analyses and the types of interventions created for specific kinds of problems in social work. Empowerment of citizens equals the presence of options in relation to welfare benefits.
