ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a thorough discussion of the legal and ethical issues associated with using tests and assessments in the counseling process. Professional standards are reviewed as well as the use of ethical decision-making. Various professional organizations (e.g., ACA, ARCA, AERA, APA, etc.) standards are reviewed and compared. Qualifications for use of differing tests and assessments are reviewed. Additionally, this chapter incorporates different scenarios faced by clinicians and how they might analyze, consider, reflect upon, make an informed decision, and work for the best interests of the client in relation to legal and ethical issues.
